Knees for active walkers

If you are confident walking but would like to increase your ability to walk for longer or further our experienced prosthetists will be able to advise you on suitable knee solutions.

There are many different types of knees available including:

Hydraulically controlled knees

Hydraulic knee systems work by using a drum containing liquid which is compressed as the knee is flexed and uses the then stored energy to extend the knee. They provide excellent stability for the user and enables a smooth and close to normal gait. Hydraulic knees are suitable for moderate to active users.

Hydraulic swing and pneumatic extension knees

Hydraulic swing and pneumatic extension controlled knees are suitable for active walkers, the combination of control mechanisms enable smooth transitions when walking whilst requiring minimal effort.

Microprocessor Knees

Microprocessor knees work by sensing you walking speed and the terrain you are upon and adjust accordingly. To find out more visit our microprocessor knee page.
