Having the right level of suspension for your needs is vital for getting the most out of your prosthetic. Whether you would like the increased suspension to help you to trust your prosthetic or you take part in high level sports we can provide you with the suspension system best for your needs.
Subatmospheric pressure suspension systems work by actively expelling the air from within the socket to create negative pressure, this is achieved using a one way valve. This process helps to stabilise the residual limb and liner within the socket and provides excellent levels of suspension.
If you feel that your silicone/gel liner doesn’t quite provide the level of suspension you would like or you would like increased stability around your knee the addition of a sleeve may be suitable. Sleeves are constructed of elasticated fabric and are worn over the top of the socket, knee and the lower part of your thigh.
With increased suspension levels the risk of pistoning decreases resulting in a more stable residual limb. This can also help to improve proprioception. The use of a sleeve can also help to mask the trim lines of your socket.
